The Art of the Handwritten Letter
I received a letter last week, a real one, with a stamp and handwriting I recognized before I opened it. I read it three times. I have not read any email three times in my life.
A letter costs something. It takes time to write, cannot be edited without showing the edit, and arrives days after it was sent, into a moment the writer could not see. That friction is not a flaw. It is the whole point.
